Advanced Screening, Insurance and Out-of-pocket costs
The South Asian Heart Center provides an advanced screening methodology to ascertain risk for heart disease. The Center performs additional tests beyond the conventional lipid tests that often underestimate the risk for heart disease in this population. These tests include the NCEP ATPIII prescribed basic lipid panel (Total Cholesterol, LDL-C, HDL-C, Triglycerides) and emerging risk factors and other abnormalities prevalent in South Asians:
- Apo-B
- LDL-C sub classification (7 sizes)
- HDL-C sub classification (5 sizes)
- C-Reactive Protein
- Glucose
|
- Lipoprotein (a)
- Homocysteine
- Fibrinogen
- Insulin

The South Asian Heart Center's clinical and nutritional consultations and ongoing case-management visits are provided at no cost to participants. The lab bills participants directly for the advanced blood test. We have set up a reduced pricing schedule with the lab, so the maximum out-of-pocket expense is limited to $69 for PPO insurance holders and $225 for HMO, Kaiser or self-pay participants. Medicare Part B insurance holders are covered 100%.
To get screened, just sign-up online and we will call you to set up an appointment. Note you do not need your physician's clearance for the screening. However, we encourage you to talk to your physician and check if they will order the advanced test, and refer you to the ancillary wellness programs (including nutritional consultation) accordingly.
